James G. Carton

James G. Carton is an Assistant Professor in Sustainable Energy at Dublin City University's School of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering. His research focuses on hydrogen and fuel cell technology development, renewable energy systems, and energy policy. Carton leads large-scale projects including HyLight (investigating hydrogen's role in decarbonization) and HySkills (EU-funded workforce training in hydrogen technology).

His technical expertise spans electrolysis, regenerative fuel cells, power-to-gas conversion, and renewable transport systems. Policy interests include climate change mitigation and sustainability modeling. He founded Hydrogen Ireland Association and advises Hydrogen Mobility Ireland while serving as a UN-ECE hydrogen expert.
