James Francis is an Instructional Associate Professor in the Department of English at Texas A&M University. His primary affiliations include roles in the College of Arts and Sciences, where he contributes to undergraduate mentoring and OER textbook development. He holds a Ph.D. from Middle Tennessee State University (2010), an M.A. and B.A. from Texas A&M University (2005, 1999).
Dr. Francis’s research focuses on horror studies, film adaptation, queer/gender theory, and popular culture. His monograph Remaking Horror examines Hollywood’s remake culture, while recent projects include co-authored studies on horror musicals and A.I. in sci-fi film. He actively develops open educational resources (OER) like Marvels and Wonders and Surface and Subtext, prioritizing academic equity through free-access materials.
His awards include the 2024 College of Arts & Science Undergraduate Mentoring Award and recognition for OER committee work. Current research involves collaborative projects with former students from the English Department’s UPREP Program.
