James Fossett is an Associate Professor in the Art Department at State University of New York at New Paltz. He is a co-founder of the multi-disciplinary performance group Cave Dogs and holds an MFA from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston) in association with Tufts University, and a BS in Photojournalism from Kent State University.

His creative work spans performance art, photography, and video installations, often exploring themes of identity, environment, and narrative through interdisciplinary collaboration. Fossett has exhibited and performed nationally and internationally at venues like Reykjavik Fringe Festival (Iceland), Centre for the Less Good Idea (South Africa), Skissernas Museum (Sweden), and The Brooklyn Children’s Museum (NYC). His projects include public installations commissioned by Cambridge (MA) Community Arts Group and Arlington (MA) Arts Council.
Notable awards include grants from the Jim Henson Foundation, New York State Council of the Arts, and residencies at Sibikwa Arts Centre (South Africa) and Ballinglen Arts Foundation (Ireland). He teaches courses in photography, color theory, and studio art, while also coordinating the BS Visual Arts Degree Program and serving on university committees.
