James Fogarty

Associate Professor James Fogarty is affiliated with the University of Western Australia (UWA) School of Agriculture and Environment and the Institute of Agriculture. His research focuses on water use economics, alcohol markets and policy, consumer food demand, and horticulture economics, particularly in the wine grape sector. He holds editorial roles with the Journal of Wine Economics and contributes to the American Association of Wine Economists. Fogarty is a dedicated educator, having received multiple teaching awards, and develops microcredentials in agriculture and environmental science. His leadership roles include former Head of School and membership in UWA's Academic Board and Senate. He oversees the UWA Teaching and Research Vineyard and collaborates on projects like the Zero Net Emissions Agriculture CRC and WaterSmart Dams initiative.

Research interests span water policy, alcohol taxation, food consumption, and meta-analysis. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to sustainable cities, responsible consumption, and climate action. Fogarty advises on government and private sector projects through UWA Consulting and has supervised numerous graduate students in environmental and agricultural economics.
