James Farrington is an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Notre Dame, teaching Licensing Transactions at the Law School and Intellectual Property/Business Law in the ESTEEM Program. He is a retired partner from Wiggin and Dana (a major law firm with offices in Connecticut, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C.), where he specialized in commercial transactions for biotech, pharmaceutical, and medical device companies, particularly involving licensing, joint ventures, and technology transfer. Previously, he was a partner at Mannheimer Swartling, Sweden's largest law firm, in New York City.
Education: B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame (undergraduate), J.D. with high honors from Quinnipiac University School of Law. His career spans nearly nine years in engineering and product management in air pollution control before transitioning to law.
Research focuses on life science transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, licensing, and cross-border deals for biotechnology and medical device industries. Recognized as a leading practitioner through awards from PLC/Global Counsel, Chambers Europe, and LMG Life Sciences, which inducted him into its Hall of Fame for lifetime achievement in life science transactions.
Currently resides in South Bend with his wife Susan.
