James Fabionar

Dr. James Fabionar is Associate Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Learning and Teaching at the University of San Diego. His research examines ethnic studies pedagogy, equity in education systems, and community-based approaches to youth development. He developed curriculum frameworks for high school ethnic studies programs and studies their impact on student engagement.

Current teaching includes graduate courses on diversity/inclusion, educational advocacy, and critical social theory. Dr. Fabionar is developing global study programs examining education policy in post-colonial contexts including Vietnam and the Philippines.

As research affiliate with the Center for Minority Serving Institutions, he investigates retention strategies for underrepresented students through learning community models and culturally responsive curriculum design.
