James Erickson is an Adjunct Professor of Guitar and Assistant Director of the Long Island Guitar Festival at Long Island University (LIU Post), with additional teaching roles at Nassau Community College and Suffolk County Community College. He is affiliated with the School of Performing Arts, Department of Music, where he teaches music history, theory, and fretboard harmony.
His educational background includes a B.F.A. and M.A. in Music History and Performance from Long Island University, where he was honored with the 'Outstanding Performance in Guitar Studies' award in 2002.
James Erickson specializes in classical and rock guitar performance, music education, and film scoring. His research and professional interests span guitar instruction, music appreciation, and the history of rock and roll. He is an active performer, both as a soloist and as a member of the Artesian Guitar Quartet, touring internationally and premiering new works. He has also composed soundtracks for independent films and participates annually in the 'Songe d'été en Musique' festival in Quebec.
His professional recognition includes the 'Outstanding Performance in Guitar Studies' award. He is a member of the College Music Society, Guitar Foundation of America, and Long Island Classical Guitar Society.
James mentors students through instruction and ensemble direction, particularly as director of the Suffolk County Community College Guitar Ensemble. He is actively involved in diverse musical projects, recording, and festival leadership, contributing significantly to guitar pedagogy and performance in the New York and Long Island region.
He performs regularly in solo and chamber settings across the U.S., Canada, and Europe, and is the assistant director of the annual Long Island Guitar Festival, which hosts international artists for masterclasses and concerts.
