Dr James Dunk is a Research Fellow at the University of Sydney's School of Social and Political Sciences, leading the planetary mental health theme in the ARC Discovery Project Planetary Health Humanities. He co-directs the Ecological Emotion Research Lab and convenes the At a loss for words of loss research collective and Climate Distress, Art and Open Dialogue Community of Practice. His roles include President of the Australia and New Zealand Society of the History of Medicine (2021–23). He holds a BA (Hons) and PhD from Sydney University.
Research Interests: Environmental history, planetary health, history of psychology, environmental humanities, mental health, ecological emotion, and climate distress.
Key Contributions: Published in journals like International Review of Environmental History, Australian Psychologist, and History of Psychology. Authored Bedlam at Botany Bay (2019), shortlisted for multiple awards. Organizes public events blending history, environmental research, and art.
