James Doelman is an Associate Professor in the Department of English and Writing Studies at Western University. He holds a M.A. and Ph.D. from McMaster University and a B.A. (Hons) from Western University. His research focuses on early seventeenth-century manuscript poetry and prose, particularly the political and satirical dimensions of funeral elegies and the rhetoric of manuscript newsletters. He also explores authorship attribution, English semantics in the 1600-1660 period, and the poetry of George Herbert.

Teaching interests include sixteenth- and seventeenth-century literature, poetics, and courses on J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. His recent work involves examining the cultural and political contexts of manuscript circulation in early modern England.
