James DeLaunay

James DeLaunay is an Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics at Pennsylvania State University. His research focuses on multimessenger astrophysics, integrating observations of gravitational waves, high-energy neutrinos, and electromagnetic signals (X-ray to gamma-ray photons). He is a key member of the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory team, leading efforts to detect faint gamma-ray burst counterparts to gravitational wave events via the NITRATES pipeline. Additionally, he collaborates with the IceCube Neutrino Observatory to study high-energy neutrino sources linked to X-ray bright active galaxies.

DeLaunay’s work bridges observational astronomy with computational analysis, emphasizing the synergy between different astrophysical messengers. His current projects include studying binary neutron star mergers and active galactic nuclei through multimessenger approaches. He maintains an office in Davey Lab 445C on campus.
