Hugo A. Ayala Solares is an Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Physics at The Pennsylvania State University, affiliated with the Eberly College of Science. His research focuses on high-energy astrophysics and multimessenger astronomy. He is a core member of the Astrophysical Multimessenger Observatory Network (AMON), which integrates gamma-ray, cosmic ray, neutrino, and gravitational wave data to study transient astrophysical events. He also contributes to the High Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) gamma-ray observatory in Mexico, analyzing gamma-ray emissions from Fermi Bubbles and diffuse cosmic sources. Additionally, he is part of Penn State's Institute for Gravitation and the Cosmos.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Physics, Michigan Technological University (2017)
- Engineering Physics, Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM, 2011)
His research interests span particle astrophysics, transient phenomena, and multimessenger astronomy. He has developed techniques to correlate astrophysical messengers for event localization and has contributed to studies of diffuse gamma-ray backgrounds. His work bridges observational astronomy with theoretical models of cosmic accelerators and relativistic jets.
Awards:
- Henes Fellowship Assistant Award (2017)
- Doctoral Finishing Fellowship (2016)
- ITESM Honorable Mention (2010)
He collaborates extensively with international observatories and contributes to data analysis frameworks for multimessenger astronomy. His research aims to uncover the origins of cosmic rays and the mechanisms driving extreme astrophysical events.
