Dr. James D. Hoehns is a Clinical Professor and Head of the Division of Applied Clinical Sciences at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. He practices at Cedar Valley Primary Care in Waterloo and serves as Research Director at Cedar Valley Clinical Research, overseeing over 100 Phase 2/3 clinical trials as a co-investigator. His clinical practice focuses on family medicine resident training and collaborative care models. Dr. Hoehns holds dual degrees from the University of Iowa: a B.S.Ph (1983) and PharmD (1986). His research emphasizes pharmacist-driven interventions in chronic disease management, medication safety, and interprofessional collaboration. He has pioneered community pharmacist roles in chronic care management (CCM) and ECG-guided drug therapy decisions. Awards include multiple Teacher of the Year recognitions and the Sternfels Prize Finalist selection for drug safety innovations.
