James D Baker

James D. Baker is a Research Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Miami's College of Arts and Sciences where he also serves as the Directory of the Biology BS/MS Program and Confocal Facility Manager. His laboratory is based in Room 36 of the Cox Science Center in Coral Gables, Florida.

Dr. Baker's research focuses on fundamental cell biological phenomena using Drosophila as a model system. His laboratory employs a combination of genetics, light microscopy, and electron microscopy to investigate ciliogenesis and mitosis in living organisms. The Baker Lab has developed innovative approaches for visualizing cellular dynamics in real-time, including novel fluorescent probes for temperature and pH sensing. His research integrates molecular biology with advanced imaging techniques to study sensory neuron development and basic cellular mechanisms.
