معرفی
Dr. James Chagdes is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at Miami University, serving as co-director of the Miami University Center for Assistive Technology. He holds a Ph.D. and B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University (2012 and 2007, respectively). His research focuses on nonlinear dynamical systems, biomechanics, and controls, particularly in understanding human balance mechanisms to develop assistive and rehabilitative technologies. Collaborations include the Air Force Research Laboratory and interdisciplinary teams across Miami University.
Education:
- Ph.D., Mechanical Engineering, Purdue University, 2012
- B.S., Mechanical Engineering, Purdue University, 2007
Research Interests: Dr. Chagdes investigates the neural, muscular, and mechanical systems underlying human movement to design smart devices for health monitoring, fall prevention, and functional independence. His work employs wearable sensors (e.g., insoles, clothing) and technologies like balance boards and virtual reality to analyze postural stability. Current projects include studying age-related balance decline and neurological impairments, with a focus on early detection of instability mechanisms.
Honors and Awards:
- Excellence in Teaching Award, Purdue University (2011)
Grants and Advising: Dr. Chagdes actively collaborates with the Armstrong Institute for Interactive Media Studies and the Scripps Gerontology Center. His interdisciplinary projects aim to bridge biomechanics, robotics, and clinical applications. Funding sources include the Air Force Research Laboratory.
Labs/Teams: Co-director of the Assistive Technology Center, leading teams in developing assistive devices and diagnostic tools for neurological and physical impairments.
