معرفی
James Carolan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at Maynooth University, Faculty of Science & Engineering. He holds a BA in Botany (Trinity College Dublin, 1998) and a PhD in Biology (Trinity College Dublin, 2004). His research focuses on proteomics and molecular interactions between organisms, particularly aphids, bumblebees, and pathogens. He secured Science Foundation Ireland funding for quantitative mass spectrometry facilities, enabling advanced research projects.
Research areas include aphid-plant interactions, bumblebee conservation, marine bioadhesive studies, and parasitic diseases like Ascariasis. His work integrates genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics to address agricultural, ecological, and biomedical challenges. Collaborations span international institutions, including the International Aphid Genomics Consortium and the Bumblebee Genome Initiative.
Recent publications emphasize aphid effector proteins, glyphosate impacts on bumblebees, and proteomic responses to pathogens. His lab, Applied Proteomics Laboratory, develops bespoke proteomic strategies for non-model organisms. Conservation efforts include the Bumblebee Nest Initiative on campus to support pollinator populations.
