James C. Franklin serves as the Kernan Robson Professor in the Department of Politics & Government at Ohio Wesleyan University and directs the International Studies Program. He teaches courses including Latin American Politics, Comparative Political Issues, Democratization, and Protest and Political Violence.

- Ph.D. from Texas A&M University
Research Focus: Professor Franklin investigates political repression, political protest, and democratization, driven by foundational work with Amnesty International and service trips to Mexico. His current project analyzes global democratic revolutions, building on field research examining economic and political transformations in Mexico. His scholarship connects human rights advocacy with empirical studies of developing nations.
Scientific Recognition:
- Best Paper of the Year in Political Research Quarterly (2009)
Professional Engagement: His research has been published in Comparative Political Studies, International Studies Quarterly, and Political Research Quarterly. He has collaborated on international fieldwork teams in Mexico studying socioeconomic changes. Outside academia, he is an active musician (drummer) and resides with his political scientist spouse and two children.
