معرفی
Dr. James Brind is a Research Associate at the Whittle Laboratory, University of Cambridge, working in collaboration with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. He completed his PhD at the Whittle Laboratory in 2019 with a thesis focused on gas turbine cooling systems design.
His research interests span aeroacoustics, turbomachinery, and computational fluid dynamics, with particular expertise in turbine acoustic impedance and thermoacoustic stability. Dr. Brind has developed analytical methods and computational models to predict how sound waves reflect from turbomachinery components.
His publication Modelling Turbine Acoustic Impedance (2021) demonstrates his focus on improving prediction tools for impedance boundary conditions in gas turbine combustors, with findings showing acoustic impedance is most sensitive to flow coefficient. His current research concerns centrifugal compressor design for heat pumps, an important technology for decarbonisation of heating.
- 2021 European Turbomachinery Conference Best Paper Award
Dr. Brind collaborates closely with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries on research projects related to turbine design and aeroacoustics. His work bridges theoretical modeling with practical engineering applications in gas turbine technology. At the Whittle Laboratory, he continues to advance methods for predicting and mitigating thermoacoustic instability in combustion systems.
