James Bordignon is an Adjunct Faculty member in the Department of Finance at the Quinlan School of Business, Loyola University Chicago. With over 30 years of experience in financial markets, he brings deep industry expertise in derivatives, risk management, energy trading, and compliance. He teaches core finance courses such as FINC 335 (Investments), FINC 345 (Portfolio Management), FINC 336 (Introduction to Derivatives), and the MS Finance Capstone (FINC 630).
His research and professional interests center on sustainable finance, particularly carbon markets and environmental project finance. His recent contributions include two book chapters in the 2025 edition of Energy and Environmental Project Finance Law and Taxation, where he explores cap-and-trade versus carbon tax systems and financial instruments in environmental markets. These works highlight a growing academic focus on climate finance and market-based environmental solutions.
James holds an MBA in International Business from Dominican University and a Bachelor’s in Economics from Iowa State University. He has held leadership roles at Northern Trust, KPMG, BP, the University of Chicago, and DRW Trading. He is also an Advisory Board Member at the Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center, reflecting his commitment to community engagement.
