James B. Steinberg is the Dean of the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and a Senior Fellow at the Henry A. Kissinger Center for Global Affairs. He holds a BA from Harvard University and a JD from Yale Law School. His career includes roles as Deputy Secretary of State (2009–2011), Dean of Syracuse University’s Maxwell School (2011–2016), and Deputy National Security Advisor to President Clinton (1996–2000). He has authored influential works on US-China relations, strategic reassurance, and foreign policy history.
