James A. Eastham

James A. Eastham, MD, FACS, is a leading urologic surgeon and the Chief of Memorial Sloan Kettering's Urology Service. His clinical focus is on prostate cancer treatment, specializing in nerve-sparing radical prostatectomy, salvage radical prostatectomy for post-radiation recurrence, and robotic-assisted surgery.

Dr. Eastham's research emphasizes improving post-surgical outcomes for prostate cancer patients, including cancer control, urinary function restoration, and sexual function preservation. He collaborates with medical oncology and radiation oncology teams to personalize therapy, and explores emerging approaches like focal therapy for localized treatment and local treatment for low-volume metastatic cases.

His clinical trials include investigations into photodynamic therapy for recurrent prostate cancer. Dr. Eastham has authored over 300 peer-reviewed publications and contributed to major textbooks such as Comprehensive Textbook of Genitourinary Oncology and Campbell’s Urology.
