Jalal Sani is an Assistant Professor of Accountancy at the Gies College of Business, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he has been employed since 2021. Previously, he served as an Instructor there from 2020–2021. He holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration (Accounting) from Penn State University (2020) and a Master of Commerce (Accounting) from the University of Melbourne (2015).
His research focuses on Information Disclosure, Financial Reporting Regulation, Disclosure Externalities, and Real Effects of financial decisions. Notable topics include corporate investment efficiency, intangible investments, and the impact of mandatory portfolio disclosures. His work has been published in top journals like Journal of Accounting and Economics and Journal of Accounting Research.
Professor Sani has received multiple awards, including the 2023 The Accounting Review Outstanding Reviewer Award and teaching accolades such as the List of Teachers Ranked as Excellent by Students (UIUC, 2021–2024). He serves on the editorial boards of The Accounting Review and China Journal of Accounting Research, and has reviewed for leading journals like Journal of Financial Reporting and Management Science.
His research has been highlighted in media outlets such as Bloomberg, MarketWatch.com, and Harvard Law School Forum on Corporate Governance. He actively participates in academic conferences, including the Journal of Accounting and Economics Conference, and teaches courses like Decision Making for Accountancy with high student ratings.
