Jala Rizeq is a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology at the University of Glasgow, affiliated with the Mental Health and Wellbeing group. She holds a BA (Honours) in Psychology from York University, followed by an MA and PhD in Clinical Developmental Psychology. Her clinical training includes roles at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (Toronto) and a postdoctoral fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children.
Her research focuses on child and youth mental health, examining impacts of adverse life events, climate change, and global stressors. She explores developmental pathways to psychopathology and disparities in mental health outcomes. Key themes include trauma sequelae, affective forecasting, and the intersection of environmental challenges with psychological well-being.
Recent work includes studies on socioeconomic disparities in environmental behaviors, pandemic mental health trajectories, and the stress sensitization hypothesis in deprived populations. Her methodologies span longitudinal analysis, network theory, and clinical measurement validation.
