Jakub Stepien is a Lecturer at the Department of Constitutional Law, Faculty of Law and Administration, University of Lodz. He has been employed at the university since October 2021 and defended his doctoral thesis in January 2023, titled "Relations between the State and the Catholic Church in the Constitutional Order of the Third Polish Republic."
Dr. Stepien graduated from the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Lodz in 2017. His research focuses on three interconnected areas: individual rights constituting freedom of conscience and religion, the ability of religious associations (particularly the Catholic Church) to function within the state framework, and contemporary relationships between state authorities and clergy within constitutional order. His methodology involves comparing current developments with relevant legal regulations from both Polish constitutional law and Catholic Church doctrine.
Dr. Stepien teaches constitutional law courses for both Law and Administration programs in full-time and part-time formats. He serves as co-supervisor of the Constitutional Law Research Group and is a member of the Center for Anglo-American Legal Tradition. His scholarly approach involves analyzing violations of state-church relationship standards and tracing evolving dynamics in these relations.
Dr. Stepien actively popularizes constitutional law by demonstrating how legal principles manifest in pop culture. His professional development goals include creating comprehensive proposals for reforming state-church relations in Poland, particularly regarding interactions between public authorities and clergy, with the aim of strengthening constitutional principles while maintaining consistency with the current Constitution.
He maintains regular office hours on Wednesdays from 14:30 to 16:30 in room 3.94 at Kopcińskiego 8/12, 90-232 Łódź.
