Jakub Jirsa is an Associate Professor at the Department of Arts and Religious Studies, Faculty of Arts, Charles University, Prague. He serves as the director of his department and has held visiting fellowships at the Institut für die Wissenschaften vom Menschen (IWM) in Vienna (2019, 2003). His career includes roles as a part-time fellow at the Czech Academy of Science (2001–2003), a lecturer at Charles University (2000–2002), and vice-director of the Center for Political Philosophy, Religion and Ethics (2017).

Jirsa's research spans ancient philosophy, ethics, and political philosophy, with a focus on Plato and Aristotle. His work explores themes such as self-knowledge, courage, divine ethics, and the autopoietic nature of universities. He has edited significant collections, including On Liberal Education and the Autopoiesis of Universities (2023) and Plato’s Statesman (2013).
The analysis of his articles reveals a deep engagement with Platonic dialogues, Aristotelian ethics, and the intersection of moral philosophy with contemporary issues like euthanasia, hate speech, and transitional justice. His publications often bridge classical thought with modern societal challenges, emphasizing the relevance of ancient ethics to current debates.
