Jakob Wisse is a Professor of Latin Language & Literature at Newcastle University, where he has worked since 1999. His primary research focus is on ancient rhetoric, particularly Cicero and his De Oratore, as well as Roman republican intellectual life, historiography, and Latin language studies. He is currently collaborating with Federico Santangelo on a commentary of Sallust's War with Jugurtha and plans to edit the Oxford Classical Text of De Oratore.
Wisse holds a PhD in Classics (1994) and a Research Master's equivalent in Mathematics (1983) from the University of Amsterdam. He was elected to The Academy of Europe in 2014. His publications span areas including Ciceronian rhetoric, historiographical narrative, and rhetoric-philosophy intersections in antiquity.
