Jakob Hærvig

Jakob Hærvig is an Associate Professor in Thermal Engineering at AAU Energy, Faculty of Engineering and Science, Aalborg University. His research focuses on computational fluid dynamics (CFD), heat and mass transfer, and energy systems, with applications in sustainable technologies such as marine air lubrication, hydrogen production, and thermal energy storage.

His research interests include Computational Fluid Dynamics, Thermal Engineering, Fluid Dynamics, Heat and Mass Transfer, Energy Systems, Hydrogen Production, Marine Carbon Emissions Reduction, Nanofluid Boiling, Particle Agglomeration in Turbulent Flow, and Packed Bed Thermal Energy Storage. He applies advanced numerical methods to solve complex engineering problems related to energy efficiency and environmental impact reduction.

His recent publications demonstrate a strong trend in developing and applying CFD models to multiphase flows, phase change phenomena, and energy system optimization. Key themes include droplet dynamics, air lubrication for drag reduction, nanofluid behavior, and open-source simulation tools for thermal storage. His work bridges fundamental fluid mechanics with practical engineering solutions.

He has supervised multiple PhD students, including C. Kringel, D. L. Martinho, B. Rajitram Barai, and K. G. Bilde, on projects related to air lubrication, electrolysis, particle separation, and agglomeration modeling. He has been involved in several research grants, including projects funded by EUDP and other Danish research councils, focusing on green hydrogen, carbon emission reduction, and advanced CFD modeling.

Jakob Hærvig is actively involved in the research community through participation in workshops and seminars related to CFD and industrial fluid dynamics. He is a member of the Danish Society for Industrial Fluid Dynamics (DANSIS) and has contributed to professional development through training in OpenFOAM and measurement techniques.
