Jakob Eriksson

Jakob Eriksson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), where he has been a faculty member since 2009. He was promoted to his current rank in 2015. Previously, he completed a two-year postdoc at MIT CSAIL after earning his Ph.D. from UC Riverside in 2006.

His research focuses on core computer systems including operating systems, concurrency, performance optimization, and distributed computing. Current projects include:

• Compound Processes for software stack optimization
• Trust Rust-based message-passing framework
• Rackwide Computing across multiple machines

Awards and Honors:

• UIC Teaching Recognition Program Award (2014)
• UIC Award for Excellence in Teaching (2022)

He advises 5 current PhD students and has graduated 6 PhD students. His research is supported by a $500k NSF grant (2021-2024) for Rackwide Computing. He leads a research lab in room 1300 SEO focusing on systems innovation.
