Jakeya Caruthers is Assistant Professor of English and Africana Studies at Drexel University, jointly appointed in the Department of English and Philosophy and the Center for Interdisciplinary Study. She earned a PhD in Social Sciences from Stanford University.
Her research examines Black political aesthetics in 20th/21st-century cultural production, focusing on race, gender, sexuality, and state discipline. Current book project investigates humor and feminist affects in Black literature/performance. Additional work analyzes contemporary Black aesthetic categories and abolitionist frameworks.
Caruthers co-edits Abolition Feminisms and co-develops digital archives on feminist decriminalization. She welcomes PhD supervision in Black cultural studies and critical race theory.
