Dr. Jake Bowers is a Reader in Photovoltaics at Loughborough University, affiliated with the Photovoltaic Materials and Devices group and the Centre for Renewable Energy Systems Technology (CREST). He holds a BSc (Hons), PhD, and MInstP qualifications.
His research focuses on thin film chalcogenide-based photovoltaic materials such as CdTe, CIGS, and CZTS, alongside transparent conducting oxides deposited via vacuum and non-vacuum techniques. He also investigates advanced characterization methods like admittance spectroscopy, photoluminescence, and electroluminescence.
Dr. Bowers has contributed to UK and EU projects including the EPSRC-funded PVTEAM and FP7-funded CHEETAH initiatives. His work emphasizes optimizing thin film deposition processes, buffer layer properties, and device efficiency in photovoltaic systems.
Recent publications (2023–2025) highlight advancements in CZTSSe morphology, ZnO buffer layer engineering, and CdTe device optimization. His research bridges material science and practical photovoltaic applications, addressing challenges in scalability and efficiency.
