Jake Bair is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Oklahoma State University (OSU), affiliated with the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology (CEAT). His research focuses on microstructure evolution, grain boundary dynamics, and phase field modeling with applications in nuclear materials and additive manufacturing. He holds a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology (2016) and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Washington State University (2012).
Research interests include:
- Grain boundary migration mechanisms
- Phase field modeling of solidification and hydride formation
- EBSD analysis of microstructural changes
- Mechanical behavior of materials under cryogenic conditions
His publications explore topics such as nuclear fuel performance, cryogenic grain growth, uranium carbide solidification, and antithermal grain boundary mobility. Recent work addresses fission gas release in used nuclear fuel and hydrogen embrittlement in zirconium alloys.
Awards include recognition for hydrogen design innovation (WHEC 2012) and academic excellence through the Dean’s Merit Scholarship. He is an active member of professional societies including TMS and ASM International.
