Patrick Burr is an Associate Professor at the University of New South Wales in the Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering department. He holds a PhD in computational materials for fission and fusion applications from Imperial College London. His research focuses on degradation mechanisms in energy materials, particularly for nuclear applications.
His research interests span nuclear materials, solar photovoltaics, battery technologies, and computational materials science. Recent work emphasizes radiation damage in reactor materials, hydrogen interactions with metals, and advanced nuclear fuel designs.
Recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on nuclear materials characterization, including zirconium alloys for reactor applications, tungsten boride shielding materials, and uranium-based fuel systems. Computational methods feature prominently in his research approach.
He has received the ARC Mid-Career Industry Fellowship and leads several major research projects on fusion materials and nuclear shielding technologies.
