Dr. Jahson Alemu I is a Research Assistant Professor at the Stokes School of Marine & Environmental Sciences, University of South Alabama. He specializes in interdisciplinary research addressing coastal sustainability, ecosystem services, and social-ecological systems. His work emphasizes balancing environmental protection with socio-economic well-being, particularly in urban and coastal settings.
Education: Ph.D. (2012-2018) from University of the West Indies (Trinidad & Tobago), M.Sc. (2007-2008) from Bangor University (UK), B.Sc. (2002-2005) from University of the West Indies. His research focuses on mangrove dynamics, blue carbon, and climate change impacts on coastal ecosystems, collaborating with scientists, policymakers, and communities.
Key research areas include policy levers for sea-level rise mitigation, urban mangrove resilience, and trade-offs between ecosystem services and human activities. He has published extensively on coastal ecology, urban ecosystem frameworks, and coral reef recovery post-bleaching events.
His publications span journals like Estuaries and Coasts, Landscape and Urban Planning, and Ecological Indicators, reflecting his expertise in bridging ecological and socio-economic dimensions of coastal management.
