Jae Hee Han is an Assistant Professor of Religious Studies at Brown University, specializing in the literature and communities of ancient Syria and Mesopotamia. His research focuses on prophethood, revelatory knowledge, and religious interactions among late antique groups such as Jewish Christians, Manichaeans, Neoplatonists, and early Jewish mystics. He holds a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania (2018), an MTS from Harvard Divinity School (2012), and a BA from Princeton University (2009, cum laude).
His work examines intersections between religious texts, practices, and sociohistorical contexts in the Roman Near East. Current projects include a book on prophethood and revelation in the late antique Near East, with articles under review and forthcoming on Manichaean pedagogy and textual performance.
He teaches courses on Jesus in ancient contexts, late antique 'dark arts,' and the prophetic traditions from Moses to Muhammad. Affiliations include the Society of Biblical Literature (SBL) and the American Academy of Religion (AAR).
