Jacqui Pich is an Associate Professor and Deputy Head of School (Teaching and Learning) at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Technology Sydney (UTS). She is also a Course Director for Undergraduate Nursing at UTS and has held academic positions including Lecturer and Assistant Director of Clinical Education at the University of Newcastle (2014–2016). Her primary affiliations include the Faculty of Health at UTS and the Family and Domestic Violence Research Network.
Education background: She holds a PhD (2014) and Bachelor of Nursing (Honours 1st Class) from the University of Newcastle, Australia. She is a dual university medalist for her undergraduate and honours studies in nursing. Her PhD focused on the VENT study examining violence experiences in emergency department nurses.
Research interests: Dr. Pich specializes in workplace violence prevention in healthcare settings, particularly for nurses and midwives. She focuses on violence management strategies, clinical education, and planetary health integration into nursing curricula. Her work emphasizes improving patient safety, healthcare worker wellbeing, and the physical design of hospital environments to reduce vulnerability. She also explores empathy training for healthcare students and the impact of violence on care quality.
Awards and recognitions: In addition to her dual medals, she received the 2019 Best Research Proposal Award and Faculty of Health Research Award. Her research has been featured in parliamentary reports and media outlets like the ABC’s 730 Report.
Advising and grants: As Chief Investigator (CI), she secured over $574,000 in grants since 2017, including projects on violence during the pandemic, empathy immersion training, and WIL programs. She developed a 'Virtual Empathy Museum' initiative and pioneered the Marking Algorithm rubric for clinical assessments. Her teaching innovations include web-based transition-to-practice modules and digital storytelling for clinical reasoning.
Labs and networks: She co-chairs the Australian College of Nursing’s Violence in Nursing Taskforce (focused on domestic/family violence support for nurses) and collaborates with professional bodies like the NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association. She actively participates in the Family and Domestic Violence Research Network at UTS and has contributed to peer-reviewed journals as a guest editor for Healthcare (2022–2023).
