Jacques Y. Perreault is a Professor at the University of Montreal within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of History. He specializes in classical archaeology and has led significant research projects, including two archaeological missions in Syria and Greece.
- Education: Ph.D. in Classical Archaeology (1984), École Pratique des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (France).
Research Interests: His work focuses on Greek colonization, colonial urbanization, and cultural interactions between Greeks and non-Greeks. Key projects include the excavation of Ras al-Bassit bay (ancient Posideion) in Syria, exploring early Greek-Oriental contacts, and Argilos in northern Greece, studying colonial city development.
Grants and Outreach: Perreault has received travel grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) for fieldwork between 2015–2023. He actively engages in public outreach, contributing to media discussions on archaeological preservation and co-teaching an online course on Greco-Roman archaeology.
Labs and Teams: He directs the Mediterranean Archaeology Laboratory (LAM) at the University of Montreal, where students analyze artifacts and databases from his field projects.
