Professor Jacquelyn Y. McLendon is a Professor of English and Africana Studies at the College of William & Mary, where she has taught for 20 years of her 33-year teaching career. Her research focuses on African American literature, early English literature, and ecocritical studies, emphasizing the relationship between literature and the environment, particularly regarding persons of color. She is currently editing an MLA series volume on Nella Larsen's novels and has published works on African American writers, including a juvenile biography of Phillis Wheatley.
Her research interests include:
- Analysis of African American women writers
- Harlem Renaissance studies
- Ecocritical approaches to literature
- Literary connections to environmental justice
Professionally, she has edited anthologies for Pearson Custom Publishing and contributes to literary pedagogy. Personal interests include knitting, British dramas (especially BBC productions), and spending time with her toy poodle, Max.
