Jacqueline Van Gent is an Associate Professor in the Discipline of History at the School of Humanities, The University of Western Australia. She holds a PhD from the University of Western Australia and an MA from Humboldt University. Her research focuses on gender, religion, and colonial encounters with interdisciplinary approaches integrating historical emotions, material culture, and power dynamics. She leads major research projects on Indigenous responses to missions, global object networks, and gendered materiality.
Her academic contributions include ARC Discovery Projects and fellowships such as the Fritz Thyssen Fellowship. She has held roles in the ARC Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions (2014–2017). Teaching includes courses like 'Love, Belief and Death in Europe' and 'Medieval and Early Modern Women.'
Van Gent has received international recognition, including being a Foreign Corresponding Member of the Royal Gustaf Adolph Academy and an Honorary Doctorate from Sweden. Her outreach spans workshops like the Indigenous Knowledge and Emotions Decolonizing Practice event and a podcast on Protestant missions.
