Jacqueline P. Hand is a Professor of Law at the University of Detroit Mercy’s School of Law, located on the Riverfront Campus in Dowling Hall. Her expertise spans Environmental Law, International Law, and American Indian Law. She has been with Detroit Mercy Law since 1980, advancing from Assistant Professor (1980) to Associate Professor (1983) and ultimately Professor (1989).
She founded the American Indian Law Center at Detroit Mercy in 1996 and continues as its director. Her professional affiliations include the Academy of the IUCN (World Conservation Union), the Environmental and Indian Law sections of the Michigan State Bar, and the American Association of Law Schools (AALS), where she previously chaired Environmental, Property, and Agricultural Law sections. She also serves as secretary and board member of the Ecology Center Ann Arbor and co-chair of the Southeast Michigan Fulbright Association.
Dr. Hand holds a J.D. from Wayne State University, an M.S.J. from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, and a B.A. from St. Mary’s College, University of Notre Dame.
