معرفی
Dr. Jacqueline Holler is a Professor of History and Gender Studies and Chair of the Global and International Studies program at the University of Northern British Columbia. She earned her PhD from Emory University and holds MA and BA degrees from Simon Fraser University. Her research focuses on the intersection of gender, sexuality, emotion, health, and religion in sixteenth-century New Spain, with particular attention to women's healing networks and medical knowledge exchange. Her current SSHRC-funded project examines multi-ethnic women’s healing practices in colonial Mexico (1530–1750).
Dr. Holler teaches undergraduate courses on Caribbean piracy, early modern Europe, colonial Latin America, and the history of masculinity. She supervises graduate students in History, Gender Studies, Interdisciplinary Studies, and International Studies, specializing in Mexican and Latin American topics related to gender, violence against women, and health. She has received the UNBC Teaching Award twice (2005, 2019) and actively contributes to academic discourse through book reviews and editorial work.
Her research interests include colonial Latin America, women’s and gender history, religion’s role in political culture, and the history of emotions. She explores how marginalized groups navigated colonial systems through medical knowledge, religious practices, and social networks, emphasizing the agency of Indigenous, African, and Spanish women in shaping colonial societies.
Dr. Holler’s work bridges historical analysis with contemporary gender studies, offering insights into how historical patterns of power and resistance inform modern understandings of gender and health. Her interdisciplinary approach integrates cultural, social, and medical history to create a holistic view of colonial Mexico’s complex social fabric.
