Dr. Jacqueline Gould is a MS McLeod Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Adelaide, affiliated with the School of Psychology and the Discipline of Paediatrics within the Adelaide Medical School. She is also associated with the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute. Her research focuses on optimizing early brain development through nutritional interventions, particularly in preterm infants and children, emphasizing the role of fatty acids, choline, and micronutrients like iodine and vitamin D. She leads large-scale randomized controlled trials and observational studies investigating links between nutrition and cognitive, language, and behavioral outcomes in childhood.
Her work integrates public health principles, clinical trials, and longitudinal follow-up to address developmental challenges in vulnerable populations. Key areas include the effects of prenatal and postnatal DHA supplementation on neurodevelopmental outcomes, the impact of maternal choline intake on child cognition, and the association between vitamin D status and postpartum depression. Gould’s studies often involve interdisciplinary collaboration, combining nutritional science with behavioral and neurodevelopmental assessments.
Recent publications emphasize methodological rigor, such as mediation analysis of DHA’s dual effects on IQ and bronchopulmonary dysplasia, and systematic reviews of iron supplementation’s neurodevelopmental impacts. Her research also addresses societal trends like pandemic-related changes in psychotropic medication use among children. Gould’s work aims to translate evidence-based nutritional strategies into clinical practices to improve developmental outcomes globally.
