Jacqueline Batley is a Professor and Laureate Fellow at the School of Biological Sciences, University of Western Australia (UWA). She leads a research group focused on crop genetics and genomics, particularly disease resistance in Brassica species. Her work contributes to crop improvement, addressing challenges like disease and drought to enhance global food security.
Education: BSc (Hons) in Biology from the University of Bristol, MSc from Durham University, PhD from the University of Bristol (2001). Prior roles include senior research scientist at DPI-Victoria and ARC QEII Research Fellow at the University of Queensland (2007-2014). She serves on editorial boards for BMC Genomics, Molecular Breeding, and other journals.
Research interests span crop genomics, disease resistance evolution, and plant-pathogen interactions. Key projects include Brassica pangenomics, blackleg resistance, and leveraging wild relatives for crop improvement. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to food security and innovation.
Awards: Nancy Millis Medal (2019), University of Queensland Foundation Research Excellence Award (2009), and Early Career Researcher Award (2008). Grants include leadership in ARC Training Centres and projects on disease control and climate resilience in crops.
Teaching: Courses include BIOL1130, GENE4001, and AGRI5502. Collaborations involve international teams and institutions, advancing genomic tools for crop improvement and marine ecosystem resilience.
