Jacob Wienecke

Jacob Wienecke is an Associate Professor in the Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports (NEXS) within the Faculty of Science at the University of Copenhagen. He holds multiple leadership roles including Head of Bachelor Studies in Exercise and Sports Science, Animal Lab Group Coordinator, and Coordinator of the teaching in the field of Ballgames. His academic credentials include a PhD in Neuroscience and an MSc in Human Physiology & Biology, both from the University of Copenhagen.

Wienecke's research program centers on the relationship between movement and learning, investigating how physical activity influences cognitive abilities and academic performance. His work employs both field studies (primarily school-based randomized controlled trials) and laboratory experiments using EEG to measure brain activity. His research group is recognized for its creativity in developing interdisciplinary intervention studies with children and adults, and he maintains a substantial network of national and international collaborators.

His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on embodied learning approaches, physical activity interventions in school settings, and their specific effects on reading development and academic performance.
