Jacob Prater

Jacob Prater, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in the College of Natural Resources, specializing in Soil and Waste Resources. Originally from Tennessee, he has embraced Wisconsin's seasons and integrates his passion for soil ecosystems into teaching and outreach.

His teaching spans Agriculture, Agronomy, and Soil Science, with expertise in introductory and field-based courses covering ecology, soil classification/mapping, and water resources. Research focuses on prescribed fire effects on soils at UW-Stevens Point’s Treehaven facility, statewide Provisional Ecological Site Descriptions with the NRCS, nitrogen use efficiency in agriculture, and contaminant transport (estrogens, synthetic chemicals) in soil systems.
