Jacob Montiel is a Research Fellow at the University of Waikato’s Artificial Intelligence Institute and a member of the Machine Learning Group. He also holds an Adjunct Researcher position at Télécom Paris, Institut Polytechnique de Paris. His primary focus is on adaptive learning systems for evolving data streams, with contributions to open-source libraries like River and scikit-multiflow.
Education includes a PhD in Computer Science from Télécom Paris (2019), MEng from Tokyo Institute of Technology (2010), and BSc in Electrical Engineering from Puebla Institute of Technology (2005). Industrial experience includes roles at GE Aviation as Tech Lead for aircraft diagnostics software.
Research interests span data stream mining, concept drift adaptation, and scalable machine learning frameworks. His work emphasizes bridging academic research with industrial applications, particularly in real-time model updating and production AI systems.
Selected awards include the Paris Summer Innovation Fellowship (2016) and CONACYT PhD Scholarship (2015–2019). He has presented tutorials at IJCNN and IJCAI on data stream mining and contributed to major conferences like IEEE BigData.
