Dr. Jacob Lollar is a British Academy International Fellow in the Department of Classics and Ancient History at Durham University. His research focuses on apocryphal/parabiblical narratives and Syriac manuscripts, particularly their role in shaping cultural identity among Syriac-speaking Christian groups. He holds a Ph.D. from Florida State University (2018) and has held prestigious fellowships including the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship and Chateaubriand Fellowship in Humanities.
His research explores how scribes curated and edited stories of apostles and saints to construct ideological and historical narratives. Key areas include Syriac hagiography, manuscript analysis, and textual transmission. He has published widely on topics like the Syriac Martyrdom of Šarbēl, the Euthalian Apparatus in apocryphal texts, and the textual history of the History of John.
