Jacob Derkert-Rosenberg is a Senior Lecturer at Stockholm University's Department of Culture and Aesthetics. He holds a Ph.D. in Musicology (1998) and served as a Research Fellow at the university from 2003 to 2007. His roles include leading the Department of Musicology (2004) and later the Department of Musicology and Performance Studies (2006–2012), as well as chairing the Swedish Society for Musicology (2009–2014). He has edited STM-online and the Swedish Journal of Music Research. His research focuses on French Art Music around 1900 (especially Debussy) and formalist ideologies in modernist music. He has supervised six Ph.D. theses since 2007.
His work combines historical studies with critical theory, exploring themes like tonality, reception aesthetics, and the intersection of mathematics and music theory. He is affiliated with the Forum Modernism research group at Stockholm University, which examines modernist expressions and concepts.
