Dr. Jacob Crouse is an NHMRC Research Fellow and Academic Lead of the Clinical Stream of the Youth Mental Health and Technology Team at the Brain and Mind Centre (BMC), University of Sydney. He holds a PhD in Mental Health (2021) and completed degrees in Psychology (B Psych Hons) and a Master of Business Management and Science (MBMSc).
His research focuses on circadian rhythms' role in mental disorders, particularly depression and bipolar disorder, using biologic, clinical, and wearable data. He leads projects like the Australian Genetics of Depression Study and Neurobiology Youth Follow-Up Study, funded by NHMRC, Wellcome Trust, and others. He is an Executive Editor for Research Directions: Depression and Associate Editor for Australian Psychologist.
Key research interests include:
- Circadian clock dysfunction in mood disorders
- Genetic and environmental influences on mental health
- Early intervention and prevention strategies
He has published over 65 peer-reviewed articles in journals like Lancet Psychiatry and Molecular Psychiatry. Awards include the 2024 Young Investigator Grant (Brain and Behavior Research Foundation) and 2023 Young Researcher of the Year (Sydney Local Health District).
Current collaborations include Kings College London, Oxford University, and institutions in the US and UK. His work emphasizes translational research to bridge clinical practice and scientific discovery.
