Jacob (Jack) V. Aranda is a Professor in Pediatrics and Ophthalmology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, where he serves as Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Pediatrics and Director of Neonatology. His work bridges neonatology and clinical pharmacology through translational research focused on oxidative injury diseases in newborns.
- PhD in Pharmacology from McGill University
- Medical degree from Manila Central University
- Training: US Naval Hospital Subic, National Children’s Hospital DC, SUNY Upstate, Cleveland Metro Hospital/Case Western University, and McGill University-Montreal Children's Hospital
Dr. Aranda’s research emphasizes clinical and translational pharmacology in newborns, particularly diseases of oxidative injury such as chronic lung disease, retinopathy of prematurity, and pain management. He has extensively studied the pharmacokinetics of drugs like ibuprofen, buspirone, and azithromycin in pediatric populations.
His publications from 2001–2008 span neonatal pharmacology, analgesic therapies, and drug metabolism. Key themes include anti-inflammatory agents in neonatal infection, pharmacogenomics in autism, and targeted drug delivery systems. Articles highlight collaborations with NICHD and industry-funded trials.
Dr. Aranda has secured substantial NIH/NICHD grants, including: $1.98M for pediatric pharmacology research (2004–2008), $200K for autism pharmacotherapy (2002–2006), and $165K from the Gerber Foundation (2007–2009). He has led industry-sponsored trials with Pharmacia & Upjohn, Pfizer, and Eli Lilly.
