Jaclynne Kerner is an Associate Professor in the Department of Art History at SUNY New Paltz, where she has taught since 2008. Her research focuses on the intersection of Islamicate visual culture with medieval Europe, particularly exploring cross-cultural artistic exchanges, illustrated Arabic manuscripts, and the material legacy of classical antiquity in Islamic art. She holds a B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. from New York University.
Before joining SUNY New Paltz, she taught at Pepperdine University, California State University Long Beach, and Fordham University. Her curatorial experience includes fellowships at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Her work bridges art history with interdisciplinary studies, emphasizing technical analysis of artworks and the historiography of Islamic art scholarship.
Her research on Arabic herbal manuscript illustration and textile production has been supported by prestigious awards, including the 2013 STITAH seminar at Yale University and the 2009 NEH Summer Seminar in London. Her publications span book chapters, peer-reviewed articles, and critical reviews, demonstrating expertise in both medieval Mediterranean art and the modern reception of Islamicate material culture.
