Jackie Sieppert is a Professor in the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Calgary. He previously served two terms as Dean of the Faculty of Social Work, leading Canada's largest social work degree program. Dr. Sieppert's educational background includes:
- PhD from Arizona State University (1994)
- BSW and MSW degrees from the University of Calgary's Faculty of Social Work
- Registered Social Worker (RSW) with the Alberta College of Social Workers
Dr. Sieppert's research focuses on community development with seniors, dynamics of successful collaboration, and digital storytelling. He was a co-lead on the internationally recognized Elder Friendly Communities Program and facilitated a groundbreaking digital storytelling program. His work has emphasized practical applications of social work principles in community settings, with a particular focus on supporting seniors and promoting reconciliation efforts.
Dr. Sieppert has been actively involved in community service, serving as a Board member and Board Chair for multiple nonprofit organizations. In 2018, he was admitted to the Order of the University of Calgary for exemplary service to the university and community. That same year, he was gifted with a Blackfoot name - Oot'soo Piik'sii (Shore Bird) in recognition of his work to support reconciliation.
He is currently on leave from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025.
